The Sub-9 Schooner Shakedown is an individual, time-trial, point to point race on the double-black diamond (expert level) Schooner Trace mountain bike trail at Brown County State Park.
Racers will compete against a clock while additional time bonuses are awarded for clearing the most difficult obstacles along the course. The event is only open to 50 individuals competing in Open Men, Open Women and Singlespeed categories.
The Sub-9 Schooner Shakedown is part of the 2013 IMBA Great Lakes Regional Summit weekend!
The 2013 course will feature a technically demanding, 3-mile section on the double-black diamond, Schooner Trace mountain bike trail. Rider will encounter natural rock outcrops combined with hand place rock work to challenge even the most experienced - with plenty of penalty for failure in the hard-to-access ravines.
Check out this video from a small portion of the Schooner Shakedown course!
Join us for the Shakedown After Party featuring live music from solo "jam" artist Derick Howard, complimentary beer from Big Woods Brewing Company (must be 21+), plus lots of fun and games for everyone to be included!

It's been a few weeks since the 2013 IMBA Great Lakes Regional Summit and Sub-9 Schooner Shakedown, but we wanted to let you know what fun we had! More than 100 mountain bike advocates from across the Great Lakes region came together for a weekend of networking, idea sharing and epic mountain bike riding in Brown County, Indiana. Everyone walked away with a wealth of knowledge to take home and share with their local clubs and chapters.
On Saturday afternoon the summit moved from the Seasons Lodge to Brown County State Park where everyone had the opportunity to check out the IMBA Epic mountain bike trail system before the Saturday Shakedown race and summit after party began. Summit participants, volunteers and friends had the chance to socialize while listening to live music from the "one man jam band", Derick Howard. The complimentary libations provided by Big Woods Brewing was the perfect way to wash down the grilled-cheesy goodness from The Big Cheeze food truck.
One of the highlights from the weekend was the first ever Sub-9 Schooner Shakedown. While more than 30 individuals registered for this one-time, special event, only 15 took to the course on Saturday afternoon. Conditions were perfect all day long, but as soon as the first rider hit the trail the sky opened and a downpour ensued!
While the sudden burst of rain was short, it lasted just long enough to make conditions slick, discouraging many participants who had hoped to test their ability on the double-black diamond, expert trail.
Congratulations to our first place rider, Matt Battin for clearing the course in amazing time.
You can see his final time, along with results from all 15 participants here.
Cheers,
